Thermal transfer labels require a ribbon to produce an image. The subsequent print is long life and resistant to removal and fade.
Direct thermal labels do not require a ribbon for an image to be produced but are suitable only for short life labelling use (e.g. fresh food) and images not subject to heat or strong light. Images can fade quickly and print head wear is increased.

Weyfringe stocks three main types of ribbon.
Wax. This is our general purpose ribbon suitable for most packaging requirements. It can be used on matt and gloss paper labels and is ideal for most carton, food and other general labelling requirements.
Wax Resin. This is for use with paper and some synthetic materials and offers a higher level of smudge and removal resistance for use where a longer lasting image is important.
Resin. This ribbon offers the highest levels of smudge and removal resistance when used in conjunction with specialist synthetic labels. Commonly used for serial plates, outdoor labels and chemical labelling. This is a premium ribbon.
